How Brite Tank Can Improve Your Brewing Process

A brite tank, also known as a bright beer tank, is a vessel used for brewing and packaging beer and is an essential part of any beer brewing operation. Beer is often carbonated and conditioned in brite tanks before canning or bottling, and they can help improve beer clarity, reduce oxygen exposure, and ensure consistent levels of carbonation. What is BriteTank?

The term "bright tank" is often used to describe the vessel in which beer is placed after primary fermentation and filtration, where it can be further matured, clarified and carbonated. Bright cans are also used for storage prior to barreling, bottling, canning and packaging.

What's the point of the Brite tank?

A Brite Tank is a container used during the brewing process to hold beer that is clarified or "brightened" and ready to be packaged. Tanks are usually made of stainless steel and are cylindrical in shape. Pressure rated and equipped with a thermometer and temperature controller to keep beer within the desired range. The main purpose of the Brite Tank is to allow brewers to package beer for sale without first sending it through a lengthy and expensive refrigeration or filtration process.

Do you need a Brite Tank?

A Brite Tank is not required for brewing beer, but it is useful. Conical fermenters allow for greater clarity while allowing you to transfer yeast in a more complete manner. When you pull the yeast out of the cone, you leave a layer of yeast on the walls and in the cone. This can cause the beer to go stale. The Brite Tank allows you to transfer the beer from the yeast without transferring any yeast sediment. This contributes to cleaner, tastier beer.
