Diaphragm Pump VS Centrifugal Pump in Microbrewery
In the brewing process, Centrifugal pump is very common. During wort transfer in brewhouse, we will use the centrifugal pumps.
With growing, we start to utilize diaphragm pump in some places. It is mainly for beer transferring during fermentation when there is still yeast inside
For example, some customers had mentioned to utilize centrifugal pump for beer transfer to work together with Hop gun, which is not advised actually.
The diaphragm pump is the appropriate choice. The diaphragm pump is more gentle during working, which aviods the oxygenation.
About the diaphragm pump VS centrifugal pump, there is some difference on their structure. The diaphragm pump has better leakproofness than the centrifugal pump, so it will help to keep maximum CO2 than centrifugal pump. That is why we usually suggest diaphragm pump to work with hop gun together.
While for wort transfer and CIP cleaning, the centrifugal pump is much suitable as it is powerful.
