Base on our standard configuration, the capacity of mash tun or kettle tun is same. But usually ask if there have situation that mash tun is bigger than kettle tun for brewing suitable alcohol beer?
We think it is OK to design the mash tun is bigger than kettle tun. Then we can brew high alcohol beer. For example 10bbl system:
If the capacity of mash&lauter tank, kettle&whirlpool tank is 10bbl, and the ratio malt:water 1:3.
Then the malt about 2.5bbl, water 7.5bbl,which use for brewing high alcohol beer. But in the process of sparging, there have some water into brewhouse, the total volume will be more than 10bbl wort for boiling. Finally we got 10bbl wort.
But if the mash tun capacity is 12bbl, kettle tun is 10bbl, the malt will be 3bbl, the water will be 9bbl. There do not have sparging, we directly boiling the wort, we also can get 10bbl wort. But the alcohol is higher.
