The horizontal tanks usually be placed in cellar or cold room, and single wall without cooling jacket. They usually be placed stackable for save some place. From brewing technology, They usually be put as lagering tanks for beer maturing, the primary fermentation usually happen in open fermenters, after the primary fermentation, will be transferred into horizontal lagerring tanks for maturing ,aging.
With the development, the horizontal lagerring tanks are developed to vertical cylinder vessels and with cooling jacket. But there are still part European customers interested horizontal tanks. So why.....?
As we know ,some of European buildings are old history and the height of room is not too high, It is impossible to place vertical tanks inside. For expanding the capacity, they had to choose horizontal tanks to replace of vertical tanks.
Another, it is because of brewing technology, some European brewer masters still continue the old brewing method, from Primary fermentation in open fermenters for several days, and then remove the yeast from the top of fermenters, transfer beer into horizontal tanks for lagerring, aging.....Because of the old brewing technology, they used to brew some season beers, it means brews in spring or autumn because of the suitable temperature, another, It is also because the cooling system was simple or even without the modern cooling system like now, so the brewers had to brew season beers sometimes.
For some start breweries, it is no problem to use vertical tanks for them.
Do you like horizontal tanks or modern vertical cylinder tanks?
